Six Tenancy Issues Almost Every Tenant in Delhi-NCR Faces

Landlord-Tenant-Myrealestate

Ramesh, you have not paid this month rent. Why? You know very well that I do not like such type of negligence. You have not paid last month payment, too. This is too much. I can’t stand it any longer. Pay rent on time or better look for another place. There are many more in the line whom I can rent out this home. Got me?

Guess what? The typical reminder in the garb of warning from the landlord. And this is not the issue faced by male tenants; even female tenants have to experience such an unpleasant, bitter call or usual scolding over delayed payment from their landlords.

No sooner had you missed one month payment than you find yourself in the line of his/her ire.

And when it comes to complaining your landlady Aunty, the tap is not working then you get the usual clever answer Dear, get it fixed by yourself, I will rebate the repair cost from next month payment and you know very well that it’s never gonna happen. There are few lucky ones who get kind-hearted and understanding landlords. Otherwise, the lots of them are awful beyond the words to describe.

In fact, tenancy issues are so widespread in Delhi-NCR that it is so easy to assess the gravity of mental or emotional pressures that a tenant often undergoes.

Here, we discuss 6 tenancy issues that almost every tenant in Delhi-NCR faces.

You have to deposit security prior to taking occupancy

This is perhaps the most awful tenancy issue one has to experience in the course of searching housing on rent. Typically, the landlord demands deposit in bulky figure at the time of taking occupancy. This sort of deposit could be in terms of advance payment to your landlord and you are assured that the security-deposit will be returned to you at the time of leaving or vacating the property. However, that not the real story a fat chunk of the deposit will literally be taken by the landlord under the pretext of certain damages done by paying guests. Means, the landlord will take big amount of your money because you had damaged its property while living there even though the damage was too minor.

Rents not easily affordable

The room-rents in most areas of Delhi-NCR, especially the posh colonies are too expensive to be afforded easily. In most of the circumstances, tenants find their landlords renting out housing apartments at a monthly payment which is raised 3-5 times higher than the current amount. Interestingly, the tenants are not served prior notification about the arbitrary hike.

Disturbed privacy

Being a paying guest affords another mind-boggling issue in terms of facing untimely and rude visit of landlords that definitely disturbs your privacy. Since it is not your home nor you can lay any claim on the ownership of the property rented out to you, there is no escaping from the fact that you have to face this issue. Poor tenants have to put up the brave face on sudden intrusion of the landlords, as they can afford losing the home by earning the anger of landlords.

Bear the Cost of Repairs and Maintenance

No matter how good you are as a tenant, when it comes to paying the cost for repairs and maintenance of household things like bathroom fitting or toilet repairing etc; the tenants have to bear the cost, not the landlords. There are also landlords very curious in charging a large chunk of amount, if you hang/pest posters on walls or if your landlord paid the price for certain repairs even though the cost of repairs was minimal.

No rooms for Bachelors

If you seek an accommodation for rent and stumble upon “TO LET” tagline on a signboard, do not just conjure up the picture that the flat/home is available for everyone. So what there is no asterisk marked on the signboard, better ask the landlord to know if he/she is willing to rent out the home to bachelors. This is because of the reason that most landlords in Delhi NCR look down upon bachelor tenants believing bachelors are boisterous and will damage property if rented out to them.

Eviction Notice

It is perhaps the most explosive rhetoric ever heard by any tenant. The funny aspect of encountering such a situation is there is no defined time-span, no prior notice. It is similar to getting a pink letter at the job where you are asked to end your employment within the specified period before your company does this on your behalf. While it is quite a relief for tenants to get everything documented, the eviction notice is still a painful experience, especially the married couples with children face a great deal of problems because of this. The only remedial solution to tackle such an issue is to study closely the legal papers (rent agreement and other tenancy documents) and make sure that you have understood the fine prints of rental agreement before you sign it. It will save you from encountering untimely eviction notice from your landlord.

Since most people feel tenancy is such a chronic headache or finding right accommodation on rent is a challenging task, they prefer to buy an apartment in Delhi-NCR to get rid of tenancy issues once for all.
