Mumbai, earlier known by the name Bombay, is the capital city of the Indian state Maharashtra. It lies in the Konkan division of Maharashtra along the west coast of India, touching the Arabian Sea. Spread across the area of over 630 sq. km, Mumbai has two major segments- Mumbai Suburbs and Mumbai city. Some of the famous parts of Mumbai are Thane, Navi Mumbai, Andheri, etc. Located near the coastal area, Mumbai has an advantage of having a natural harbor. Mumbai was initially formed by the joining of seven islands and is, thus, also called as the island city. When it comes to population, Mumbai is ranked as first most populated city in India and fifth most in the world. The climate of the place is mostly warm and humid and known for heavy rainfall.
